ADRIA CRUISE TERMINAL
The idea of designing a cruise terminal, named ADRIA TERMINAL, was born from the existence of several favorable characteristics of the area inside the old port.
Well connected with the highways, close to the historic center, equipped with a rail link, the area in question is a candidate to host the passenger traffic that accompanies a stop of the large cruise ships.
The possibility of a single approach along the existing 400 m quay was evaluated and, then, by sailing a part of the breakwater, the extension of the quay was hypothesized in order to guarantee the simultaneous presence of 2 large-capacity ships.
The redevelopment and use of the existing facilities was planned by conversion of a warehouse in a maritime station of 160,000 sqm; construction of parking lots for buses and vehicles, well connected to the main roads. Finally, using the existing binary bundle, a track of the central station was isolated to easily connect the maritime station with Venice and other important tourist destinations.
The extension of the quay also offers the opportunity to build a dock with recreational functions for sailboats and yachts.
